As the big day approaches, women are flooding the aisles of stores and pushing bandwidth of online sites in a desperate search for the perfect New Year’s Eve dress! With so many options on the market, how can one choose the perfect dress? I have a few tips that will help you on and off the dance floor!
Shop Early: Literally….Early
Don’t wait until the last minute! Get to the stores sooner rather than later. As time dwindles down, so does the inventory. Lack of time also affects the amount of time you have left for your item to ship to you. Save that money that you’d spend in ridiculous overnight fees and buy some shoes! Also, try visiting a store early in the day. By the time the open, they should be restocked and you should be able to avoid the lines!
Know Your Measurements
Seriously sis, get the measuring tape out and measure yourself. We all know that sizes vary from store to store. However, one thing that does not vary are units of measurement (notwithstanding conversions). Don’t know how to measure yourself? Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered. Check out this guide below!
Narrow Your Search
Try not to go into your search hoping to find the perfect dress with no standards for what “perfect” is. Narrow the search to a specific color, length, cut, or material. This can eliminate several options that you’d never be caught dead in. For example, I live for a good sequin dress on NYE, however, sequin may make the next diva squeamish! There’s no point in ciphering through 800 sequin dresses if it’s not your cup of tea sis.
Discounts Are Your Friend
There’s no need to break the bank when plenty of retailers offer coupon codes in-store and online. Thanks to the convenience of smartphones, you can google a coupon while you wait in line. The extra savings can add up to a few more drinks during the big night or a much needed breakfast the next morning! I prefer to start with Retail Me Not for my discount needs!
Dress for the Venue
I know you want to be sexy sis! You’ve dieted all year, you skipped the turkey at Thanksgiving, and you avoided the pie at Christmas. However, there’s nothing worse than being over or underdressed for an event and feeling utterly awkward and embarrassed. Come up with a gameplan early and dress for the occasion. If you’re extra, like me, pack multiple options in case the plan for the evening evolves with the mood!
Avoid the “Best Sellers” List
For those of you who wish to be the bell of the ball in her “one-of-a-kind” dress, avoid the best sellers tabs. They’re called best sellers for a reason! Additionally, try shopping boutiques v.s. clothing heavy-hitters like Fashion Nova or ASOS. However, if the chances of running into someone with your dress on doesn’t bother you (because no one will slay it like you will anyway) then shop on my sister!
