We are all familiar with ever-popular social media beauty trends that grace our screens each week. This week I came across another YouTube-popular product that had me skeptical, to say the least. L.A. Colors Cosmetics released the 14-shade Truly Matte Long Wearing High Pigment Foundation that costs only $6.
The L.A. Colors foundation was created to suit a “wide range of skin tones”. The creamy formula consists of a liquid which dries to a matte powdery finish. When I heard about the price, I had a few reservations. I couldn’t help but wonder what corners were cut in order to produce such a cheap foundation.
I decided to watch a few YouTube reviews from famous YouTubers like Jackie Aina and ItsMyRayeRaye. Each of these YouTube heavyweights gave the sought-after stamp of approval for the cost-effective foundation.
Intrigued by the claims, I decided to spend my $12 (minus tax and shipping), so you all wouldn’t have to risk your hard-earned money. I also took a look at the makeup brushes and purchased a foundation brush. If you’re not much for reading, feel free to watch my demo and review of the foundation.
The liquid is more of a creamy formula that is medium coverage. However, I noticed the product is buildable to a nice full-coverage matte finish.
The finish is flawless. I received several compliments about how smooth and flawless my makeup was.
It did not break apart. I have combination to oily skin. Despite my oiliness, my makeup stayed in place all night. I make mention of this in my demo and review video of the foundation.
The shade range is lacking. As a woman of color, I find it very disappointing when a cosmetic line is not inclusive of deeper skin tones. While I was able to get my perfect shade by mixing Cappuccino and Warm Caramel, I am concerned about the consumers who have deeper skin tones that are two shades deeper than mine or deeper than that.
The smell is not exactly appetizing. If you’re a person who enjoys fragrant foundations, you may not like the scent or lack thereof of this foundation. I did a sniff test and I came across a light clay-like aroma. However, I did not notice the smell at all during application.
The pump is garbage. It took quite a few excessive pumps for the product to come out onto my hand. Although this was slightly frustrating, it would not deter me from purchasing the product again. Afterall it was only $6.
Overall I think the product is amazing and is well worth the money. In fact, it performed so well that I am willing to bet the price will not be $6 forever. The L.A. Colors Truly Matte Foundation is worth more than $6!
